Monsoon Remains Weak
Bengaluru Stares at One of Its Driest Julys

Monsoon rainfall continues to disappoint across Karnataka, with Bengaluru facing one of its driest Julys in recent years.

The South Peninsula is currently running a 27% rainfall deficit this monsoon season, while Coastal Karnataka and South Interior Karnataka remain 36% and 28% below normal, respectively.

So far in July, Bengaluru has received almost no rain. The HAL observatory has recorded only a trace of rainfall, while the City Observatory has measured just 0.2 mm. Despite July usually being a relatively less rainy month for the city, this year's rainfall has been exceptionally poor.

Weather conditions are unlikely to improve soon. A weak offshore trough and subdued monsoon winds are expected to keep rainfall limited over the next week.

Only isolated light showers are possible towards the end of the week, with no widespread rain in sight.

Unless monsoon activity strengthens in August, Bengaluru could end July among its driest on record, while the rainfall deficit across Karnataka is likely to widen further.
