Celebrating Contributions of Women Scientists

International Women's Day

On this Women's Day, we celebrate the remarkable contributions of our women scientists who have significantly advanced various fields of science.

Anna Mani (1918–2001): An esteemed physicist and meteorologist, Anna Mani served as the Deputy Director General of the Indian Meteorological Department. She played a pivotal role in developing indigenous meteorological instruments and was instrumental in establishing India's wind energy sector.

Asima Chatterjee (1917–2006): A pioneering organic chemist, Asima Chatterjee was the first woman to receive a Doctorate of Science from an Indian university. Her research led to the development of anti-epileptic and anti-malarial drugs, significantly impacting medicinal chemistry.

Rohini Godbole (1952–2024): A distinguished physicist specializing in elementary particle physics, Rohini Godbole was a professor at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. She was also a staunch advocate for gender equity in science, co-editing "Lilavati's Daughters," a collection of biographical essays on Indian women scientists.
