A deep depression over the Southwest Bay of Bengal is moving closer to the Tamil Nadu coast, bringing heavy rain and the potential to intensify into a cyclonic storm.

The system, currently near Sri Lanka, is expected to track northward, skimming the coastline of Tamil Nadu and possibly Andhra Pradesh.

Coastal Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka have already seen torrential rain, with areas like Jaffna and Colombo receiving over 150mm of rainfall.

Cities like Cuddalore and Karaikal in Tamil Nadu have also recorded significant rainfall, and more is expected as the system strengthens.
