For your Safety!
What can you do to prepare for flooding?

Flood Dos and Donts

It is possible to get a flood alert, a flood warning, or a severe flood warning.

Keep medicine and insurance documents in an emergency bag in case of an alert.

If you receive a warning, disconnect your utilities, take any vehicles to higher ground, and move upstairs or to a high point of safety.

Stay put once a flood strikes. A person can be knocked over by just six inches of fast-flowing water, and sewage contamination can cause further harm.

What shall you do when flood hits your home?

First of all check whether more rain is yet to come or water levels are still rising! In that case you should evacuate and move towards a safe and dry place.

If you have ensured, that you are allowed to stay at your location follow these tips:

  • Boil water. Do not use untreated water. It can pose danger to your life and lead to a myriad of diseases.
  • Electrocution is a serious danger. Beware of open wires, power lines, cables.
  • Do not walk through moving water! Prohibit children from playing or going near flood water.
  • Don’t consume anything which came in contact with flood water.
  • Do not drive into flooded areas. You can never be sure of what is hidden below the water.
  • Clean and disinfect everything that got wet.

Several flood alerts are currently in effect. Check the WeatherRadar if you are in an alert area and prepare accordingly.
