Heatwave Alert
Cool Down Tips for a Heatwave

Here are a few important steps we encourage our users to follow during a heatwave.

Dos

  • Drink adequate amounts of water whether thirsty or not.
  • Lightweight, light-colored, loose, and breathable clothing is recommended. Wear sunglasses, hats, shoes, or flip-flops when out in the sun.
  • When traveling, remember to stay hydrated.
  • Use a damp cloth to cover your head, neck, face, and arms while working outdoors.
  • If you feel faint or ill, consult a physician immediately.
  • Rehydrate your body by drinking homemade drinks such as lassi, lemon water, or buttermilk.
  • Animals should be kept in the shade and given plenty of water.
  • Open your windows and use curtains, shutters, or sun shades to keep your home cool.
  • Be sure to use fans, wear damp clothing, and take frequent cold water baths.

Don'ts

  • Don't spend time out in the sun from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Don't exercise at noon in the afternoon.
  • Make sure you don't walk barefoot.
  • Don't cook during peak afternoons or when it's too hot
  • Don't drink too much alcohol, tea, coffee, or carbonated soft drinks, as these dehydrate you.
  • Don't eat stale food or high-protein foods.
  • You should not leave children, pets, or anyone else in a parked vehicle. This may cause heat stroke.
