La Niña vs El Niño
From Scorching Heat to Monsoon Relief

El Nino to La Nina

La Niña is set to influence India's climate by late summer, transitioning from the prevailing El Niño conditions.

El Niño, characterized by warmer Pacific Ocean waters, often leads to a drier and hotter summer in India, reducing monsoon rainfall.

However, La Niña, the opposite phase, involves cooler Pacific waters, which is good news for India as it generally brings a stronger monsoon with above-average rainfall and cooler winters.

What can we expect?

This year, India anticipates a brief spring before a severe summer, with El Niño expected to neutralize by June, paving the way for La Niña's onset by September.

This pattern, similar to 2016 following the intense El Niño of 2015, promises a significant impact on India's summer and monsoon season, offering relief from the heat and supporting agricultural activities with increased rainfall.
