Monsoon Covers All of India

India's southwest monsoon has covered the entire country by June 29, nine days ahead of schedule, according to the IMD.

This early arrival is expected to benefit the timely planting of summer-sown crops such as rice, corn, cotton, soybeans, and sugarcane.

The monsoon is crucial for India's agriculture, delivering nearly 70% of the rainfall needed for farming and replenishing water sources.

Despite an initial rainfall deficit in early June, the month ended with an 8% surplus, boosting kharif sowing and improving reservoir levels.

The IMD forecasts above-average monsoon rainfall for the second consecutive year in 2025, supporting the agricultural sector.
