The Southwest Monsoon has missed its normal onset date of June 1 over Kerala, marking a slower-than-expected start to the rainy season.

Although the monsoon reached the Andaman Sea and South Sri Lanka ahead of schedule on May 16, its progress towards mainland India has remained sluggish.

At present, weak monsoon currents are hovering near the Maldives and Comorin region. Weather experts expect the monsoon to reach Kerala within the next 3–4 days, but the associated cloud patterns and wind flow are still not showing typical monsoon characteristics.

Seasonal rainfall counting has officially begun from June 1 and will continue until September 30. Even after reaching Kerala, the monsoon may struggle to maintain a steady pace across Peninsular India.
