Low-Pressure System Near Tamil Nadu

A low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal near Sri Lanka has shifted northward and is now positioned off the Tamil Nadu coast.

The system is linked with a cyclonic circulation and may strengthen slightly over the next 24 to 48 hours. However, weather conditions are not favourable for major intensification, and cyclone formation chances remain very low.

The system could briefly become a depression before weakening over the sea. Rain and thundershowers are expected across south coastal Tamil Nadu and nearby interior regions. Heavy rain has already affected parts of Sri Lanka and isolated Tamil Nadu coastal areas.

Meanwhile, strong southwesterly winds may help monsoon onset over the Andaman Islands around May 16, while mainland India may see further delay in monsoon progress.
