Temperatures Near 39°C
Mumbai Faces Early-Season Heat Wave

Heat in Mumbai on the rise with temperatures touching 39 degrees in March

Mumbai is experiencing intense heat early in March, with temperatures crossing heat wave limits for the third time this month.

The city recorded a maximum of 38.9°C on March 4 and 5, around 6°C above normal, officially marking heat wave conditions.

Unlike inland regions where the threshold is 40°C, coastal cities like Mumbai declare a heat wave once temperatures cross 37°C with a large departure from normal.

Yesterday again, the mercury crossed 38°C, and today’s maximum is expected to stay between 38°C and 39°C.

The delay in the arrival of the sea breeze is contributing to the rising temperatures. Weather conditions are likely to remain hot and humid, and similar heat wave-like conditions may continue over Mumbai until the weekend.
