Musical Tribute to Our Soil

This week we have been celebrating India's 73rd Republic Day. From morning assemblies to quite evenings at home, we have been humming patriotic songs and commemorating our freedom fighters. As the week ends, we would like to turn your attention to the soil of our land. How? With the help of music!

Meet Naren Hansda, a musician from Santhal community of Jahajpur village in Purulia district of West Bengal. He has composed over 120 songs in Santhali and Bengali and often sings about the depletion of forest cover and consequences of harming the nature.

"Enjoy Enjaami" is a Tamil pop and hip hop song by lyricist Arivu which has reference to migration, natural resources and soil erosion.

Mother Nature is a song by the Hindi rapper Raftaar. He highlights the dangers of climate change, overuse of plastic and mindless destruction of our soil as well as the challenges faced by the farmers due to instability in weather.

Do you know of any other singers or songs concerned about the environment? Do share them with us!
