Nepal: Unstable weather is hampering the search

After the Flash Floods
Rain Hampers Search for Missing Persons

Almost 5,000 people are still missing following the devastating flash floods in Nepal and Tibet. Last Wednesday, a glacier collapse north of Kathmandu triggered a massive avalanche of rock and ice. Entire villages were destroyed. More than 900 bodies have been recovered so far.

In the disaster-hit area, emergency services are currently working to make a key access road passable again. This will enable heavy machinery to be brought into the affected areas.

Weather Radar: Showers and thunderstorms on Wednesday

However, new flood warnings and the weather are hampering both the rescue efforts and the search for missing persons. The weather is set to become unsettled over the coming days: heavy showers and thunderstorms are on the way and could trigger further landslides.

Out of concern that diseases might spread, the first victims of the flood disaster are now being buried in mass graves.
