Northeast Monsoon Arrives in South India

Northeast monsoon brings in heavy rain to Tamil Nadu

The Northeast Monsoon has officially arrived over South India, bringing widespread rain across Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and coastal Andhra Pradesh.

A strong wind circulation over the southern peninsula is fuelling intense showers in several areas, including Chennai, where heavy downpours have caused waterlogging in parts of the city.

Meteorologists report that the monsoon will strengthen further over the next few days, with moderate to heavy rainfall likely to continue.

Fishermen have been advised to avoid venturing into the sea due to rough conditions.

The arrival of the Northeast Monsoon marks a crucial period for the region’s agriculture, replenishing reservoirs and boosting soil moisture after the dry post-monsoon phase.
