The IMD has issued a red alert for Assam and Meghalaya, forecasting extremely heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and squalls on June 18 and 19, with an orange alert for June 20.

This severe weather is expected to exacerbate ongoing challenges in the region, including waterlogging, transportation disruptions, and localized landslides.
