Severe Weather Explained
What is Hail?

Watch our weather explained video to know how hail forms!

A hailstorm is a thunderstorm that produces ice of various dimensions as precipitation. Hailstorms can cause serious damage to crops, property, birds and animals.

Hailstone formation

In India, hailstorms mostly affect the Northeast and Western Himalayas, with the maximum strikes in March and April. Favorable hail conditions are met by active western disturbances during winter and the pre-monsoon season.

However, this year we are also witnessing hailstorms in May, even in Delhi and Bengaluru!
