Monsoon is known to be the season of love, reunion, fertility and rejuvenation. Music which accompanies this time of the year is equally soothing and reflects the mood of the rainy days. Today, lets look at some of the marvelous sounds of monsoon from nature's own to classical delights!

  • Chatak or Pied Crested Cuckoo: The herald of monsoon is known for its peculiar voice and is a clear indicator that rainy season has come!

  • Megh Malhar is a Hindustani classical raga associated with the rainy season. The name derives from Sanskrit 'megh', which means cloud. It is said, that Tansen, the musician in the court of emperor Akbar performed Megh Malhar and a torrential rain started! There are multiple recordings of great renditions available on YouTube for you to enjoy this monsoon.
  • Folk songs also celebrate the Monsoon season which gives life to all the areas across India. Kajri is a tradition of folk music from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar that praises the Monsoon.
