West Coast Sizzles Near 38°C

Temperature on the rise across the east coast

A sharp temperature contrast is emerging across Peninsular India as the West Coast heats up faster than normal.

From Cochin to Ratnagiri, day temperatures are frequently crossing 36°C, with Karwar touching 38°C and Honavar 37°C. Mumbai has already recorded three consecutive days above 35°C.

In contrast, the East Coast from Tuticorin and Puducherry to Chennai and Visakhapatnam remains relatively mild at 30–31°C.

An anticyclone over central India is driving moist northeasterly winds along the East Coast, preventing a sharp rise in temperatures.

The West Coast, however, is experiencing dry land winds, pushing the mercury higher.

These early signs indicate the approaching pre-monsoon season, with thunderstorm activity likely to begin sooner than usual over South India.
