Basant Panchami is a festival celebrated to take leave of winter and usher in the spring season. Basant Means “Spring” and Panchami stands for “ the fifth day”. It is celebrated on the fifth day of the month of Magh according to Hindu calendar. On this day most of the time is dedicated to worshiping goddess Saraswati.

Yellow plays a special role on this day. It is believed to be the colour of the Goddess Saraswati. Decorating temples with yellow clothes and flowers and dressing in yellow is an integral part of the tradition. The blossom of mustard fields in Punjab and other Northern states is a feast for the eyes and is now one of the symbols if the festival.

Saraswati is the goddess of intellect and learning. She embodies the different facets of learning such as the sciences, arts, crafts and skills. Many families use this occasion to encourage their children to write their first words with their fingers or study or even to create art and music together.

Weather & Radar India wishes all our users a very happy Basant Panchami and Saraswati Puja!
