Why is the AQI so Bad?: Consistently Bad Air Quality in Mumbai

Why is the AQI so Bad?
Consistently Bad Air Quality in Mumbai

Mumbai City AQI

Mumbai's air quality has dropped below that of Delhi, which has become an alarming call for city residents.

The AQI in Mumbai has consistently been low, stealing the headlines from Delhi, which is usually in the news for having hazardous levels compared to Mumbai. Levels between 200 and 300 are considered poor, and 300 to 400 are very poor.

Mumbai has a long coastline, which results in better air quality. Unfortunately, we've seen a steep drop in quality this winter because of more construction, fossil fuel combustion, and CO2 emissions. Breathing problems have been a growing problem for residents.

It's the drastic weather changes, deteriorating air quality, and increasingly unhealthy lifestyles that are causing a decrease in natural immunity.

In order to combat the depleting AQI, we're urging our users living in Mumbai to take precautions.

  • Make sure you wear a mask if you're heading outside.
  • Changing your mask regularly is critical because pollutants can clog them.
  • Those with breathing difficulties should avoid being outside in particular.
  • If possible, we recommend installing an air purifier in your home.
  • Before leaving the house, check the AQI.
