Deep Depression Triggers Flood Risk

A deep depression over the Northwest Bay of Bengal crossed the coast near Digha early Monday morning and is now centred near Balasore.

The system will move slowly west-northwest across North Odisha, South Jharkhand and North Chhattisgarh over the next two days, bringing widespread heavy to very heavy rainfall.

Balasore recorded 247 mm of rain in the last 24 hours, while Puri, Hirakud, Rourkela and Keonjhar also received intense rainfall.

The highest flood risk is over interior Odisha and central and southern Chhattisgarh, including Koraput, Malkangiri, Kalahandi, Bastar and Raipur.

As the system weakens and moves inland, rain will spread to Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and later North India, including Delhi, Punjab and Haryana. Residents in affected areas should stay alert for waterlogging, flooding and travel disruptions.
