The depression over West Bengal has moved northwestwards and is now positioned over Jharkhand and adjoining Bihar.

The system is expected to gradually weaken into a low-pressure area while moving across Jharkhand, Bihar, East Uttar Pradesh and East Madhya Pradesh.

Heavy rainfall is likely over parts of Odisha, West Bengal, Jharkhand and North Chhattisgarh during the next few days. Rainfall may also increase across Uttar Pradesh, North Madhya Pradesh and the Uttarakhand foothills between August 21 and 23.

The spell could help improve seasonal rainfall figures in rain-deficit Bihar and neighbouring areas. However, persistent heavy showers near the foothills of Bihar and East Uttar Pradesh may increase the risk of localised flooding and waterlogging this week.
