Flooding Risk Increases
Heavy Monsoon Rains to Lash Kerala

Heavy rain over Kerala

The Southwest Monsoon officially arrived over Kerala on June 4, bringing widespread rain across the state.

After a strong start, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected to continue for at least the next week. Kerala typically receives its heaviest monsoon rainfall during June and July, with nearly 70% of the season’s rain falling in the first half of the monsoon period.

A cyclonic circulation over the east-central Arabian Sea is strengthening moisture-laden westerly winds along the Kerala-Karnataka coast. During the last 24 hours, heavy showers were recorded in Kochi, Kozhikode, Kottayam and Kannur.

Rain activity is likely to intensify further between June 7 and June 11. Continuous downpours may lead to waterlogging, flash floods and localized flooding in vulnerable areas. Residents are advised to stay alert and follow weather updates.
