Heat Impact on Wheat & Rabi Crops

Wheat and other Rabi crops are facing a growing threat from unpredictable weather patterns.

Sudden temperature fluctuations, especially unseasonal heat in February and March, can affect grain formation, leading to lower yields.

In recent years, early heatwaves have caused wheat shriveling, impacting both farmers and food security.

Mustard and pulses, other key Rabi crops, are also vulnerable to extreme weather, affecting market prices and farmer incomes.

To prevent losses, timely irrigation, mulching to retain soil moisture, and using heat-resistant seed varieties could be an option.

Farmers should also stay updated with weather forecasts and adopt climate-smart practices.
