Indians living along the Indian Ocean have always cherished and respected these warm waters. Ports and harbors along the Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea have witnessed the rise and fall of many maritime powers. They still play a very significant role in trade and defense of India.

Built by the British East India Company in 1640, Fort St. George in Chennai was the first British fortress in India. Learn more about the history of British colonial rule while walking around the museum, church and garden within the fort.

The historic port of Konark near Puri in Odisha is also known as a place from where Narasimha Deva I launched a surprise attack on the Turks in 1247! The famous Sun Temple was built to celebrate the victory!

The town of Colachel on the Malabar Coast is the sight of a humiliating defeat of the Dutch against Marthanda Verma of Travancore Kingdom back in 1741. Visit to learn about this often forgotten chapter of history!
