Flood Safety Measures

Take extra precaution when driving during floods or heavy rains!

The best course of action is to avoid driving in flooded areas and under heavy rain, but if you must drive, make sure you stay safe. In the event of heavy rain and floods, here is our guide on how to drive safely.

Check the flood warnings before you start driving. Avoid these routes as much as possible. Additionally, make sure your rear wipers and windscreen wipers are in good working order. It is critical that they work properly since you will be relying on them for visibility.

Have your lights on when driving to increase visibility for you and others. A larger gap between your car and others will also allow you to stop more quickly. Avoid driving too fast to avoid skidding or aquaplaning.

As a final note, do not panic if you find yourself in a flooded area. Stay in first gear and maintain speed to prevent water from entering the exhaust while driving through the shallowest part. As soon as you have passed the flood, check your brakes.
