Kolkata Waiting for Rains - 2025 Monsoon Makes Early Entry

The southwest monsoon has arrived early over Kerala and Northeast India, reaching Sikkim and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal by 29th May.

Mumbai also saw its earliest onset on 26th May. However, the monsoon's progress has stalled, especially along the West Coast and Gangetic West Bengal.

Kolkata witnessed moderate pre-monsoon showers recently, Alipur and Dumdum recorded 38mm and 7mm respectively.

Yet, the official monsoon onset remains pending. A cyclonic circulation is expected over the Bay of Bengal around 10th June, possibly developing into a depression.

This system may advance the monsoon over Kolkata by mid-June, aligning it with the city's normal monsoon schedule.
