Northeast Monsoon
La Niña, IOD, and Cyclone Impact

La Niña, the Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD), and the Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO) are all influencing current weather.

La Niña and a weak positive IOD are working together to bring more rain to South India during the Northeast Monsoon.

These global systems increase moisture and support cloud formation over the Indian seas. As a result, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and coastal Andhra Pradesh may see heavier showers in the coming weeks.

Meteorologists also expect a higher chance of cyclones forming in the Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea.

The combined effect of these systems is likely to make this monsoon season wetter and more active than usual across southern India.
