The Southwest Monsoon is likely to spread into more parts of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Telangana over the next few days.

However, the rain activity needed before a proper monsoon arrival has been weak so far. While Kerala, Coastal Karnataka and Goa have received heavy rain, many interior parts of South India are still seeing below-normal rainfall.

An east-west trough is expected to bring scattered rain and thundershowers across Maharashtra, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh on June 10 and 11.

These showers are mainly pre-monsoon rains and not a sign of active monsoon conditions.

For the monsoon to move further inland and strengthen, a fresh weather system over the Bay of Bengal is needed. Until then, the monsoon is likely to advance slowly across central and interior parts of the country.
