Monsoon Rainfall May End Well Below Normal

We could be heading towards its weakest monsoon season in nearly two decades, with June-September rainfall likely to finish around 15% below the long-term average.

El Niño conditions are expected to further weaken the monsoon during September, a crucial month for several crops.

Most parts of the country could receive below-normal rainfall, while some eastern regions may see comparatively better conditions.

Poor September rainfall could affect crops such as cotton, soybean, maize and pulses. Lower rainfall may also reduce soil moisture needed for winter crops, including wheat and rapeseed.

The growing rainfall deficit may also affect water availability and agricultural conditions across several regions.
