The southwest monsoon has stalled over the South Konkan Coast and has missed its normal June 15 arrival date over South Gujarat.

Weak monsoon currents and limited rainfall activity are delaying its further advance. Many parts of Gujarat, including Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Bhavnagar and Vallabh Vidyanagar, continue to record temperatures above 40°C, with little relief expected over the next week.

Weather systems over the Bay of Bengal, which usually help pull the monsoon into Gujarat, are currently absent. Hot and dry winds from Pakistan’s Sindh and Balochistan regions are also adding to the heat.

Weather experts expect the monsoon to remain delayed, with a possible arrival over Gujarat only during the last week of June.
