Mumbai's Record Rain Comes to a Halt

Dry Spell Likely
Mumbai's Record Rain Comes to a Halt

Mumbai saw record-breaking rain during the first week of July, receiving 1,140.4 mm of rainfall—well above the city's normal July average of 919.9 mm.

But after that wet spell, the weather has changed sharply. The city has received almost no rain over the last four days, and monsoon activity has weakened.

The main reason is the absence of a strong offshore trough along the West Coast and no fresh weather system developing over the Bay of Bengal.

Moist monsoon winds from the Arabian Sea have also weakened, reducing the chances of widespread rain.

Current weather models suggest that Mumbai is unlikely to see any significant rainfall for at least the next 10 days.

Hot and humid conditions will continue, with daytime temperatures staying around 30°C to 32°C.

Sea breeze will offer some relief, but the next spell of heavy rain is expected only after a new monsoon system forms over the Bay of Bengal.
