Gujarat and Rajasthan are experiencing rising temperatures following the withdrawal of the southwest monsoon, bringing a spell of hot and dry weather often called the ‘second summer’.

Dry westerly winds, clear skies and the absence of rainfall are pushing temperatures higher across both states.

In Rajasthan, Churu, Pilani and Ganganagar have recorded temperatures close to 40°C, while Jaisalmer, Barmer and Bikaner have witnessed highs of 38–39°C.

Meanwhile, Ahmedabad, Rajkot and Surendranagar in Gujarat have crossed 37°C.

Temperatures could reach 40°C over the coming week, particularly across North Gujarat, Saurashtra and Kutch.

Hot and dry conditions are expected to continue through much of October, with temperatures gradually declining towards November.

Residents are advised to stay hydrated and avoid prolonged exposure to afternoon heat.
