Rain Alert for Konkan Region

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an red alert for the Konkan region on August 16, coinciding with the Janmashtami festival.

Districts including Raigad, Ratnagiri, and parts of Sindhudurg are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds.

Mumbai has been placed under alert, with moderate showers expected. The IMD warns of possible waterlogging, local flooding, and disruptions to festive events and travel.

Devotees are advised to take precautions during outdoor celebrations, especially Dahi Handi programmes.

Authorities have urged residents in low-lying and landslide-prone areas to remain cautious as the intense monsoon activity is expected to persist through the weekend.
