Monsoon Rains
Reservoirs Still Below Normal

Despite the arrival of the southwest monsoon, water levels in many of India's major reservoirs remain below normal, raising concerns over water security, irrigation and hydropower generation.

Uneven rainfall and weak monsoon activity in June have limited inflows into several key reservoirs, particularly across southern and eastern parts.

Experts warn that sustained rainfall over reservoir catchment areas is needed in the coming weeks to improve storage levels.

While recent rain has helped some regions, many reservoirs are still lagging behind last year's levels, increasing the risk of water shortages if the monsoon remains subdued.

A stronger monsoon revival during the second half of July and August will be crucial for replenishing water reserves and supporting agriculture.
