Moving west-northwest, the system will approach Sri Lanka and the South Tamil Nadu coast.

While further intensification is unlikely, heavy to very heavy rain is expected over Sri Lanka, with spillover effects into Tamil Nadu.

Rainfall will increase over South Coastal Tamil Nadu from late night tomorrow, peaking between January 9 and 11. Pamban, Tuticorin, Nagercoil and Kanyakumari are at risk.

Seas will remain very rough. Conditions improve from January 12.
