Wildlife during Monsoon
Animals Love the Rains!

Frogs matingMonsoon is the time to find a mate for many creatures

Everything in this world is interconnected and so are the different species in the animal world.

For many creatures the abundance of the monsoon season denotes heightened activity. Nesting, reproduction or just eating as much as one pleases is on the agenda during the rains!

Frogs

Who hasn't heard the mating calls of the male frogs? Every Indian is familiar with those croaking sounds during the wet season. Wet and dark days with moderate temperature are perfect for frogs to find a match and lay eggs. They have enough to eat, and their skin always remains moist!

Birds

Most of the birds lay eggs just before monsoons. They know that, once rain start, they would get abundant nourishment for their small ones. Common species such as bulbuls, cuckoos, robins, barbets, sparrows, and babblers are found all over India in this season. Baya weaver birds are said to be harbingers of the rains. A male bird makes up to 500 trips to complete an elaborate nest made of palm fronds and paddy leaves.

Snakes and Lizards

These two categories feed on the abundance of frogs and birds! That’s the circle of life. The other reason for activity during the rains is that the living spaces of these reptiles get flooded and they come out seeking refuge in drier areas. Surely, even they feel the romantic vibe of monsoon and surface to find a suitable mate!

Feel free to share your images of the sprawling wildlife during the rainy season!
