The Northeast Monsoon is currently weak across the South Peninsula, with rains mostly confined to South Coastal Tamil Nadu.

Cities like Karaikal, Pamban, and Tuticorin received moderate rain over the last 24 hours, but the rest of the region has been largely dry.

Chennai has also seen a break in rainfall for the past two days, and this dry spell is expected to continue for another 5-6 days.

However, moderate to heavy showers are anticipated to return next week, giving hope for improvement in the November rainfall deficit.

A Cyclonic Circulation is likely to develop over the southern Andaman Sea within 48 hours and could strengthen into a low-pressure area by November 22, 2024.

If this system consolidates and moves toward Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka, it could bring significant rainfall to the region between November 25-28. Chennai, which has recorded below-average rainfall this month, might see heavy showers that could help bridge the shortfall.

Meteorologists are closely monitoring the situation, and updates are expected in the next 48 hours.
