World Wetlands Day
Protecting Our Mangroves

World Wetlands Day is celebrated every year on February 2 to raise awareness about the importance of wetlands for people and the planet.

Wetlands are areas like lakes, rivers, marshes, and mangroves that support rich biodiversity and help in flood control, water purification, and climate regulation.

Did you know?

Wetlands in India support nearly one-third of the country’s bird species, providing critical habitats for migratory and resident birds, including endangered species like the Siberian crane and the Indian skimmer.

India has 75 Ramsar wetlands, including the famous Chilika Lake, Sundarbans, and Keoladeo National Park.

People can contribute by reducing waste, avoiding plastic, and supporting eco-friendly tourism.

Protecting wetlands ensures a healthier environment and a better future for all. Let's act now!
