Difference Between Pre-Monsoon and Monsoon Rainfall

Pre-monsoon and monsoon rainfall differ in timing, intensity, and impact across India.

Pre-monsoon rain occurs between March and May, mainly due to local heating, thunderstorms, and weather systems like Western Disturbances.

It is usually short, intense, and accompanied by lightning, gusty winds, and dust storms. These showers bring temporary relief from rising heat.

In contrast, monsoon rainfall begins in June and continues till September, driven by southwest monsoon winds from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal.
