Super typhoon near the Philippines - Gusts of up to 155 mph

Gusts of up to 155 mph
Super typhoon near the Philippines

A very powerful tropical cyclone, Typhoon Mekkhala, has strengthened into a super typhoon over the western Pacific Ocean, east of the Philippines. The storm has generated wind gusts of nearly 155 mph (250 kmph), making it one of the strongest systems currently active in the region.

According to the latest forecasts, Mekkhala is expected to move northward over the next few days while remaining over open waters. Its projected path keeps it east of Taiwan, reducing the immediate threat to major land areas. However, residents of Japan’s southern Ryukyu Islands are closely monitoring the storm as it continues to evolve.

Mekkhala is heading for Japan’s southernmost islands. Heavy rain could lead to flooding with a risk of gale-force winds.

However, the typhoon’s exact track remains uncertain. If Mekkhala shifts closer to land, weather conditions across Japan’s southern Ryukyu Islands could deteriorate significantly. Strong gale-force winds, rough seas, and massive waves may pose risks to coastal communities and marine activities in the region.
