Streets of Trash
3 Steps to Contain Flooding

Avoid mixing wet and dry waste.Scenes like this can be seen across the country

Year after year, heavy monsoon rains flood the streets, leading to videos surfacing of plastic garbage choking the drains of our cities, towns, and villages.

Despite the outrage and criticizing comments on social media, little action seems to be taken offline.

However, there are three easy steps that you can implement to make a positive change in your neighborhood without much effort.

Step 1: Segregate waste

Avoid mixing wet and dry waste. Instead, offer fruit and vegetable peels to nearby cows or other animals.

Keep paper, glass, and plastic waste separate. For plastic waste, ensure it is washed if soiled and store it in a large bag or box.

Step 2: Sell it

Get in touch with your local scrap dealer or "kabadiwala" and arrange for them to collect the waste from your home. You can also inquire about other items they would be willing to pick up for recycling.

Some cities even offer online waste pickup services through apps like thekabadiwala.

Step 3: Stop others

Talk to your friends and family about the hazards of throwing mixed waste around and how it affects their health. Prevention is always better than cure!

Feel free to share your experience if you've already tried these steps or if you have other innovative approaches to tackle the issue.
