August is a quieter month in the skies, but does deliver one of the most active meteor showers of the year with the Perseids.

Skywatchers across India can look forward to a cosmic treat this August.

Best regions

High-altitude areas like Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and the Western Ghats offer clearer skies.

The Sturgeon Moon will rise on the 8th and reach its peak at 08:56 AM on the 9th. Shortly after, the Perseid meteor shower will hit its peak on August 12th, though visibility may be limited due to moonlight.

Despite that, up to 60 meteors per hour may still be visible. On August 19th, Mercury reaches Greatest Western Elongation, ideal for spotting the planet just before sunrise.

Toward late August, a rare planetary parade featuring Mercury, Venus, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune will occur.

Check the radar for clear skies

A New Moon on August 23rd promises darker skies for perfect stargazing conditions.
