Cyclonic System Brewing Over Bay of Bengal

A well-marked low-pressure area has developed over the Strait of Malacca and adjoining Andaman Sea under the influence of a persisting cyclonic circulation.

The system, extending up to higher atmospheric levels, is likely to intensify into a depression soon and move towards the Southeast Bay of Bengal.

Favourable sea temperatures and moderate wind shear support further strengthening, though chances of a cyclone forming within 24 hours remain low.

Forecast models agree on storm formation but differ on its track. Clarity on its movement is expected after 48 hours as it gains strength.

This could become the second cyclone of the post-monsoon season after ‘Montha’ hit Andhra Pradesh in late October.
