    Super El Niño Threat Grows

Monsoon Outlook
Super El Niño Threat Grows

A powerful El Niño is rapidly developing over the equatorial Pacific, raising concerns about its impact on India's monsoon.

June ended with a large rainfall deficit across all four homogeneous regions, marking a poor start to the season.

Forecasts indicate the Niño 3.4 region could warm by over 3°C by December, making this one of the strongest El Niño events since 1950.

On the radar

El Niño conditions are expected to persist through early 2027 with near-certainty. While the Indian Ocean Dipole may turn positive later in July, it may not be strong enough to fully offset El Niño's effects.

Weather experts warn of increased risks of erratic rainfall and widespread global weather disruptions in the coming months.
