Travelers have been requested to avoid visiting these regions to ensure safety, as there is high risk of flooding.

Update 11.12.2024: A well-marked low-pressure system near Sri Lanka and Tamil Nadu has brought heavy rain to coastal regions like Chennai, Puducherry, and Karaikal.

As the system moves west-northwest, powerful rains are expected to intensify, especially along the central coast, with places like Thoothukundi, Nagapattinam, and Ramanathapuram bracing for heavy downpours.

Moderate rain will extend to northern and southern regions, with brief but intense spells. While Chennai and Kanyakumari may avoid the worst, caution is advised until the weather stabilizes by December 13.

Where is it raining now?

The rains could disrupt daily life, causing street flooding, lightning, and strong winds, particularly between December 11 and 12. Interior areas like Madurai, Trichy, and Thanjavur may also see heavy rainfall.

Relief is expected on December 14, but another wave of wet weather might follow from December 16 to 18. Some locations, including Chennai and Puducherry, could record over 20 cm of rain during this period.
