This system, along with a coastal trough, has strengthened the northeast winds, causing moderate to heavy rain, particularly in Chennai’s Nungambakkam and Minambakkam areas, which received 36mm and 57mm of rainfall, respectively, over the past 24 hours.

Weather in Chennai

The system is moving slowly westward and will continue to affect the area for the next few days.

How much does it rain in Chennai?

November is typically the rainiest month for Chennai, and although the city has received only about 100mm so far, upcoming rains could add another 100mm.

Rains are expected to be moderate and intermittent, with some heavy spells likely to disrupt transport and connectivity. The rain intensity will be higher in the evenings and nights through November 15, with broader clearing expected by November 17, 2024.
