Makar Sankranti Celebrations Begin

Makar Sankranti, marking the transition of the sun into Capricorn, is being celebrated with great joy across India today.

States like Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Tamil Nadu have come alive with festivities.

In Punjab and Haryana, it coincides with Lohri, while in Tamil Nadu, it is celebrated as Pongal.

One of the key highlights of Makar Sankranti is kite flying in cities like Ahmedabad and Jaipur, where clear skies and mild winds set the stage for colourful kites to dominate the sky.

Clear Skies: A sunny day with minimal clouds ensures better visibility of your kite.

Moderate Winds: A gentle breeze of 8-15 km/h is ideal for kite flying.Strong winds can damage the kite, while very light winds make it difficult for the kite to soar.

Low Humidity: Dry weather helps keep the kite light and airborne without the string becoming soggy.

Comfortable Temperature: A pleasant temperature, usually around 20–25°C in January, makes the experience comfortable.

As temperatures remain cool, people enjoy traditional foods like til-gud, khichdi, and sweets made of jaggery and sesame.
