The 2026 southwest monsoon brought mixed conditions for our farming community, with uneven rainfall affecting agricultural activities across several regions.

While timely showers supported crop growth in some areas, rainfall shortages created challenges for farmers dependent on monsoon rains.

Below-normal rainfall can reduce soil moisture, increase irrigation needs and affect crops such as rice, pulses and cotton.

Meanwhile, heavy rainfall in some regions can lead to waterlogging, crop damage and delays in harvesting.

For farmers, the timing and distribution of rainfall are just as important as the total amount received.
