The Moon Phases 2024: Dates for Full and New Moon in India

Our lunar calendar shows the date of all full and new moons in 2024. At full moon, the moon is opposite the sun as seen from Earth and also appears more or less "full" on the nights before and after.

The new moon, on the other hand, is between the sun and the earth and therefore remains invisible.

The times are indicated in Indian Standard Time (IST).

The duration of a complete moon phase from full moon to full moon or from new moon to new moon is around 29 1/2 days. This is slightly shorter than the duration of most months, so that the moon phases slowly shift forward in relation to the calendar.

On and around the new moon, the nights are almost moonless and therefore quite dark. As intermediate phases, after a waxing crescent you can see the crescent moon in the evening sky and after the waning crescent a shrinking crescent in the morning sky.
