Mountains of North India witnessed one of the poorest winter seasons in 2026, with February recording extreme rainfall and snowfall deficiency.

Uttarakhand saw a massive 94% shortfall, while Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh and Himachal Pradesh reported deficits of 89% and 86%.

Reduced snowfall led to unusual warming across the hills, raising concerns for the coming months.

Now, two back-to-back western disturbances are set to impact the Western Himalayas between 03rd and 12th March.

The first system will bring light snow to higher reaches, while the second, stronger spell may trigger widespread rain and snow.

Tourist spots like Gulmarg, Manali and Rohtang could receive fresh snowfall, offering temporary relief from rising temperatures.
